Gauff is second only to Sharapova in the number of TBS quarterfinals under 20
The fourth racket of the world, 19-year-old American tennis player Cori Gauff, defeated Magdalena French from Poland (6:1, 6:2) and reached the quarter finals of the women’s singles tournament at the Australian Open 2024, where she was seeded fourth.
This quarterfinal was Gauff’s sixth in her Grand Slam career. Since 2000, in adolescence (up to 20 years), only the Russian tennis player Maria Sharapova, who had 10 such quarterfinals in her career, managed to reach the 1/4 finals of majors more often.
Also, the former first rackets of the world, Belgian Kim Clijsters and American Serena Williams, managed to reach the quarterfinals of Grand Slam tournaments in women’s singles six times each in their teens.
