19-year-old American tennis player Cori Gauff, ranked third in the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) rankings, told how the Williams sisters inspired her to take tennis seriously.
“I often hit the ball against the wall of the house. We had a basement, I was knocking on the garage door, and I just loved playing, I really loved it. And then, after seeing such amazing performances by Serena and Venus on TV, I also wanted to do something similar. And then I would say that it became a part of me, when I was eight years old, I really fell in love with tennis.
I started training at six, but I think it was at eight that I realized that I wanted to take this seriously,” Cori Gauff quotes Western & Southern Open.
