Djokovic will play in the tournament in Banja Luka in April. Rublev can come to defend the title
The 22-time winner of the “Grand Slam” tournaments, Novak Djokovic of Serbia, Swiss tennis player Stan Wawrinka and Frenchman Gael Monfils plan to perform at the tournament of the ATP-250 category, which will be held in April in Banja Luka (Bosnia and Herzegovina), reports Tennis 365.
For the past two years, the competition, also known as the “Serbian Open Championship”, was held in Belgrade, but now it had to be postponed due to renovations at the Djokovic tennis center. It is assumed that the tournament will return to Serbia in 2024, but this also depends on negotiations with the owner of the license – Ion Cyriak.
It is reported that in addition to Djokovic, Serbian tennis players Laszlo Jere, Filip Krajnović and Dusan Lajović will perform at the competition this year.
The organizers are also hoping for the arrival of the current winner of the tournament — Russian Andrey Rublev, who beat Novak Djokovic in last year’s final in Belgrade. Negotiations are also underway with Karen Khachanov and Francis Tiafoe.
